New Delhi [India], December 27 (ANI): Janata Dal (United) leader KC Tyagi on Friday expressed his grief over the demise of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, saying the whole country will be indebted to him.
Speaking to ANI, Tyagi remembered the time he worked with Manmohan Singh.
“On behalf of my party, I pay homage to him. Today’s better economy is the result of his efforts. The whole country will be indebted to him. I have got the opportunity to work with a lot of PMs, but I never seen anyone so calm and composed,” he said.
Congress MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla also expressed grief over the demise of the former PM, saying that the nation will never be able to forget his contributions.
“The nation will never be able to forget him and his contributions. He worked to improve the economy of the nation and the world. He worked for all the classes. He was the encyclopedia of economy,” Aujla said.
Additionally, Punjab Minister and AAP MLA Harpal Singh Cheema noted that the country has lost a great economist and human being.
Speaking with ANI, Cheema said. “Dr Manmohan Singh was a great economist and he was the son of Punjab. Today country lost a great economist and human being. He served the country by handling various posts and now he is gone. It is a great sorrow.”
Manmohan Singh passed away at AIIMS, Delhi, on Thursday evening at the age of 92 due to age-related medical conditions. He had a sudden loss of consciousness at home after which he was rushed to the AIIMS Delhi.
Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s body will be displayed at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters in New Delhi for public viewing. His last rites are scheduled for Saturday, according to Congress sources.
Dr Manmohan Singh’s political career spanned several decades, with notable positions including Finance Minister from 1991 to 1996, during which he spearheaded economic reforms that transformed India’s economy.
He became the 13th Prime Minister of India in 2004, succeeding Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
His tenure is particularly remembered for his steady leadership through economic crises and for pushing forward policies that modernised India’s economy.
Dr Singh retired from public life after his second term as Prime Minister, having led India through a period of unprecedented growth and international recognition.
He was succeeded by Narendra Modi in 2014 after the Congress-led UPA lost the general elections. (ANI)
