Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) [India], September 19 (ANI): Heavy rain in Uttar Pradesh has caused the water level of the Ganga to rise in Varanasi, submerging the Tulsi Ghats.
Acharya Sushil Chaubey told ANI that the increased water level has submerged the stairs of Tulsi Ghat.
“Flooding has caused many problems, but several dams have been built, which has prevented water from flowing into the city. All the stairs at Tulsi Ghat are underwater,” he said.
Acharya Rahul Pandey, another priest, told ANI that the rising water level has severely affected people living along the banks of Tulsi Ghat. He added that boat operations have also suffered due to the increased water level.
“People living near the ghat are affected by the rising water. Boats cannot operate, and many temples along the ghat have submerged,” he said.
Earlier on Monday, the sudden increase in the water level in the rivers due to continuous rain in the hilly areas led to the Moradabad railway station underpass getting completely submerged and flooding in the nearby villages of Bhagatpur, Bhojpur and Munda Pandey.
The underpass built near the railway station was submerged with no access, which caused commuters to face issues.
Commuters were not able to use the underpass due to the high pressure of water that caused major waterlogging on the roads.
Water also entered the settlements in the lower areas of Prayagraj, forcing people to evacuate their homes. Baghada, Salori and Rajapur were some of the worst affected areas. At the same time in Ayodhya, the water level of the Saryu River crossed the danger mark in the hilly areas. (ANI)
