Kushinagar (Uttar Pradesh) [India], October 7 (ANI): A major altercation occurred in Uttar Pradesh’s Kushinagar when miscreants pelted stones at a Goddess Durga idol being taken for installation on Monday.
The idol was damaged during the stone-pelting, following which a group blocked roads and raised slogans. Police reported that 10 people have been taken into custody.
Additional District Magistrate (ADM) P.K. Rai and Additional Superintendent of Police Ritesh Kumar arrived at the scene and managed the situation.
“The idol was being transported for installation when some individuals threw stones at it. An investigation is underway, and those responsible will be punished,” ADM P.K. Rai said.
Additional Superintendent of Police Ritesh Kumar Singh added, “Clashes were reported during the procession, and 10 individuals have been detained.”
Eyewitnesses claimed that the stone-pelting occurred while music was being played during the procession, leading to the idol being damaged.
“We were playing music when stones were thrown at us, and the idol was damaged,” said Vishal Chauhan, who was present at the site. (ANI)
