New Delhi [India], September 26 (ANI): A robbery incident where two motorcycle born thieves had stopped a person and snatched their gold jewelry at knife point was reported from West Delhi. The area had earlier received similar complaints.
Considering the sensitivity of the incidents, multiple teams of the police stations and Operations Unit were put on the task of nabbing them. On Thursday the police personnel were deployed in several places in civil dress to block probable escape routes of the thieves and were also surveying vulnerable places. The police teams vigilantly searched for the suspects using ground intelligence.
In the early hours of Thursday, between 8:00 and 8:30 a.m., a motorcycle matching the description was sighted in the Punjabi Bagh area. Additional teams from nearby police stations were promptly notified.
The team of special cell of the Delhi police suspected the bikers and started chasing them. While chasing, the suspected motorbike was overtaken by the police on an Apache motorcycle on Nala Road in Khyala and was asked to stop. When they didn’t stop, the police team hit them with their bike and apprehended the suspects.
Subsequently, both suspects brandished firearms and attempted to shoot at the police team. In self-defense, the police team fired back, injuring both suspects. The other police teams were called on the spot and the injured were taken to the hospital.
According to reports, In the initial enquiry, the injured suspects have been identified as Vikas and Ramesh. Firearms, dagger and stolen bike have been recovered. In initial questioning, they have mentioned being involved in criminal cases in past also, which is subject to verification. Delhi Police say further details will be shared in due course of time.
