Indore (Madhya Pradesh) [India], July 9 (ANI): Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla who was on a one-day visit to Madhya Pradesh planted a sapling at Bijasan forest camp plantation site, Indore, as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign and highlighted India’s commitment to reduce carbon footprints and the measures being taken by the government in this regard.
Speaking on this occasion, Om Birla said that in this regard, tree plantation has been proven to be the most effective way to prevent global warming, deforestation and environmental damage.

“Plantation will help us to deal with the problem of climate change and also maintain ecological balance,” he added.
Birla also observed that planting saplings should not be an end in itself but we need to protect them so that they grow into big trees.
“Monitoring activities like geo-tagging by the government will prove very helpful in protecting these activities,” Birla suggested.
He urged the people to make plantation and protection of trees a mass movement.

Mentioning the cultural and spiritual aspects of the plantation, Birla spoke about the importance of environmental protection as one of the core aspects of Indian culture.
“People in India have lived in harmony with nature since ancient times. Our culture and traditions have taught us to live in harmony with other creatures and nature,” said Birla.
Appreciating the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to protect the climate, Birla mentioned that the Prime Minister’s vision and efforts are guiding the global community towards a better and sustainable world.
“PM Modi has taught the people the values of sustainable livelihood, noted Birla. ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’, the campaign launched by the Prime Minister will be a milestone in India’s efforts towards climate protection,” Birla observed.

Lok Sabha Speaker mentioned that the future generation should be sensitized to protect climate so that collectively we can face the global challenge of climate protection.
“India is leading the world in efforts to contain climate change and solutions to global climate concerns will emerge from India,” emphasized Birla.
Former Lok Sabha Speaker, Sumitra Mahajan and Minister in the Government of Madhya Pradesh Kailash Vijayvargiya remained present on this occasion.
Earlier on the day, Birla visited Pitreshwar Hanuman Mandir and offered prayers for peace and prosperity in the society. (ANI)
