New Delhi [India], September 23 (ANI): A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking action against Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu for his alleged remarks about Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was withdrawn from the Delhi High Court.
The petitioner’s advocate, Shahsi Ranjan, informed the Delhi High Court that multiple FIRs had already been registered against Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu across various states for his remarks against Rahul Gandhi. Given these developments, the petitioner no longer wished to pursue the matter in court and requested to withdraw the PIL. The counsel stated that since legal action was being taken in different jurisdictions, there was no need to press further in this particular case.
The PIL was filed by Surjit Singh Yadav, the Hindu Sena chief, after Bittu made inflammatory comments in a press conference on September 15, 2024. Bittu had claimed that Gandhi was unpatriotic and linked him to separatists and terrorists, even describing him as the “biggest enemy” of the country.
The petition had argued that these statements were false, derogatory, and likely to incite public unrest. It requested that Bittu be prosecuted for his remarks, which had already led to protests by Youth Congress workers. However, this PIL was later withdrawn from the court, though no specific reasons for the withdrawal were reported.
Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu recently made strong remarks against Rahul Gandhi, criticizing his statements made during a visit to the United States. Bittu, who left the Congress Party to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, referred to Rahul Gandhi as the “number one terrorist.”
Bittu accused Gandhi of being disconnected from India, stating that he spends much of his time abroad and misrepresents the country in international forums.
He further alleged that Gandhi’s comments have been endorsed by individuals involved in separatist activities, as well as those known for making bombs and weapons. (ANI)
