Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], November 19 (ANI): Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) passed a resolution on Tuesday asking the Andhra Pradesh government to cancel the allotment of 20 acres of land given to Mumtaz Hotel in the Alipiri area adjacent to the Temple.
The resolution was passed during the meeting held by the TTD Trust board on Monday.
“Yesterday we passed a resolution and requested the Govt to cancel the lease and we are going to handover that land for temple,” said TTD chairman BR Naidu.
He said that the proposed plan of Mumtaz Hotel being adjacent to the temple is “objectionable”
“When Chandrababu Naidu was the CM, the original project at that time was Devalokam…Govt land was given to Tourism to develop the Devalokam project. The last government changed it and gave it to Mumtaz Hotel…It is adjacent to the Temple. So, it is highly objectionable for Hindus,” TTD chairman BR Naidu told ANI.
Naidu took oath as the chairman on November 6, and this was the first meeting of the board since his oath taking.
The TTD board also passed another resolution which requires non-Hindus employed by the board to either take voluntary retirement or opt for a transfer to other government departments in Andhra Pradesh.
Speaking to ANI, TTD chairmansaid, “I moved the resolution in the Board yesterday. The Board has unanimously accepted. We have identified some people (staff at TTD), non-Hindus…I wanted to meet those people personally and I would request them to take VRS. If they are not interested, we will transfer or maybe grant deputation to other government departments, like Revenue or Municipality or any Corporation. So, that is our intention.”
The board has also passed a resolution prohibiting political statements within Tirumala, stating that legal action will be taken against violators as well as on those who propagate them.
TTD maintains 12 temples and sub-shrines, and employ over 14,000 people. (ANI)
