Jalpaiguri (West Bengal) [India], September 23 (ANI): Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sukanta Majumdar on Monday launched a scathing attack against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the flood-like situation in the state, saying that the TMC government ‘did no repair works’ to maintain dams.
Speaking to media persons, Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar said, “West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee says the same thing every year that it is a man-made flood. What initiatives has she taken to counter the man-made flood?… They did nothing… The West Bengal government did no repair work on dams…They are telling that they are getting no money from the central government but have they taken any initiative from their side?”
This came after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, expressing concern over the flooding in South Bengal, which she attributed to “abnormally heavy releases of water from the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) reservoirs in Jharkhand.”
In her letter dated September 21, CM Banerjee voiced her disagreement with the central government’s handling of the situation. She claimed that the water release from the DVC reservoirs was done unilaterally, without sufficient input from her government.
On being asked about RG Kar Medical College & Hospital rape-murder case, Sukanta Majumdar said that the CBI investigation depends upon the availability of evidence, adding that no agency can deliver justice if the evidence is not available.
“CBI is investigating the incident. Any investigation depends upon the availability of evidence. No agency can deliver justice if the evidence is not available…In the corruption incident, two arrests have been made. I feel that the investigation is going in the right direction,” he said.
Notably, Bhartiya Janata party conducted a torch march across West Bengal accusing the TMC government in the state of “systematic failure” in the RG Kar medical hospital rape and murder of a 33-year-old trainee doctor.
The BJP held torch rallies in various districts of West Bengal, calling for the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. They accuse the state’s administration of attempting to cover up the situation. (ANI)
