New Delhi [India], October 4 (ANI): Police have apprehended one juvenile in connection with the murder of Unani practitioner Dr Javed Akhtar, police said.
Efforts are currently underway to apprehend the second suspect involved in the crime, police added.
“Southern Range Crime Branch has apprehended one juvenile in connection with the murder of Dr Javed Akhtar. The apprehended juvenile admitted his involvement in the crime. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the co-accused. A team has been dispatched for further investigation,” an official from Crime Branch said.
“During the investigation, the police discovered that two boys, aged between 16 and 17 years, arrived at the clinic at 1 am on October 2 to change the dressing they had received the day before. After changing the dressing, both boys went to Unani doctor Javed’s cabin, and then the sound of a gunshot was heard. The police identified both suspects from CCTV footage,” police said.
The police were able to apprehend the accused after they obtained clues about one of the suspects from his Instagram account.
“The police obtained clues about one of the suspects from his Instagram account. After the murder, he posted a story in which he was holding a pistol and claimed to have committed the first murder of 2024,” police said.
Doctor Javed Akhtar was shot dead inside Nima Hospital, Jaitpur under the Kalindi Kunj area. As per hospital staff, two boys had come to the hospital with an injury, after dressing they had demanded to meet the doctor and shot him dead once they entered his cabin, Delhi Police said.
“The motive behind the murder of the doctor remains unclear in the investigation so far,” police said.
Earlier, while speaking to ANI, DCP (South-East) Rajesh Deo, said, “Nima Hospital is a small nursing home Nargis Masjid in Khadda Colony under Kalindi Kunj PS area. It is a three-bed setup. Unani practitioner Javed was on duty there. Yesterday, two boys came there. One of them had injuries in his leg, he asked to dress his wound. After that, the boys suddenly went to Javed and shot him in the head.”
“This was an unprovoked incident of firing. Investigation revealed that the two boys visited the nursing home last night to dress the wound. So, it seems to be a targeted killing. This was unprovoked killing, so there can be several angles. We are probing all angles. We have identified the accused. We will nab them shortly,” DCP (South-East) Rajesh Deo added. (ANI)
