Karimganj (Assam) [India], July 9 (ANI): Pabitra Margherita, Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles, conducted an extensive review of the flood situation in Karimganj District of Assam during his visit on Tuesday.
The Minister’s visit included inspections of key relief camps in the District.
He engaged with the flood-affected residents, assessing the distribution of relief materials, child nutrition, potable water, medical services, and sanitation efforts, expressing his satisfaction with the measures in place.
Following the inspection, the Minister held a review meeting with the District Administration and Departmental Heads. The meeting was also attended by Karimganj MP Kripanath Mallah, North Karimganj MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, Ratabari MLA Bijoy Malakar, Patharkandi MLA Krishnendu Paul, South Karimganj MLA Siddique Ahmed, Lakhipur MLA Kaushik Rai, among others.
Karimganj District Commissioner Mridul Yadav provided a detailed account of the flood situation, damages, and relief distribution through a PowerPoint presentation.
The Minister inquired about the drinking water supply that was affected by the flood and instructed the Department to ensure the supply of clean and uninterrupted drinking water for the affected people.
He also suggested that the academic study disruptions due to the flood should be compensated by providing additional teaching to the students.
Furthermore, he discussed subsidies for the farmers of the Fisheries Department, which suffered losses due to the flood, and directed the Department to arrange for an adequate supply of seeds for the farmers whose crops were damaged.
The Minister also inquired about the condition of roads, educational institutions, Anganwadi centres, and electricity services affected by the flood.
He urged the administration to ensure that every affected family receives comprehensive rehabilitation assistance and that no one is left out of the recovery efforts.
The Minister further informed that the Chief Minister is closely monitoring the entire flood situation in the State and is directly visiting and interacting with people and government officials. Therefore, he requested everyone to work tirelessly until the rising waters receded and the affected people were properly compensated. (ANI)
