Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], October 6 (ANI): Amid the exit polls projection in favour of the Congress, party leader Srikant Jena on Sunday said that it was a known fact that the Congress would sweep in Haryana, and in Jammu and Kashmir, the NC-Congress alliance will form the government.
Taking a dig at the BJP, Jena said that the people have made up their minds to defeat the BJP in both states.
“It was a known fact that the Congress would sweep in Haryana, and in Jammu and Kashmir also, Congress and National Conference will form the government. They are just calculating how many seats Congress will gain in Haryana and also in Jammu and Kashmir. The mind of the people is to defeat BJP and for that people have voted in large numbers in Haryana and J&K…The people, farmers and unemployed youths were angry…”, said Srikant Jena.
Speaking on the PDP’s hints to probably provide support to the NC-Congress-led government against the BJP, Jena said that the PDP can never support the BJP and there will be a non-BJP government in Jammu and Kashmir, led by Congress and National Conference.
He said, “Naturally, PDP can never support BJP. They have been saying that they can never support the BJP. So there is no issue at all. There will be a government led by the Congress-National Conference alliance…There will be a non-BJP government in J&K led by Congress and National Conference…”
The exit polls predicted a clean sweep for the Congress in Haryana, with some polls predicting the party will win more than 50 of the 90 seats in the assembly.
Notably, the Axis My India has predicted a hung assembly in Jammu and Kashmir with the National Conference-Congress alliance slightly ahead and the BJP tailgating the opposition.
According to Axis My India, the NC-Congress alliance can win 35-45 seats whereas the BJP can win 24-34 seats. Notably, the majority mark to form the government in the Union Territory is 46 and the prediction has shown no one above the mark.
The single-phase polling for 90 Assembly Constituencies in Haryana concluded peacefully on Saturday across more than 20,000 polling stations and recorded a final voter turnout of 65.65 per cent.
Jammu and Kashmir went to polls in three phases on September 18, September 25 and October 1.
The results of the assembly elections will be declared on October 8 for both the states. (ANI)
