Darjeeling (West Bengal) [India], September 29 (ANI): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday slammed BJP-led Central government for neglecting the state during the flood situation and claimed Bengal is the only state not to receive flood relief funds.
“In Farakka there is no dredging since 20 years after the Farakka water agreement dredging is there then they should have preserved 4 lakh cusecs water more and then public would not have suffered. But our unfortunate part is Bengal is always neglected, neglected, neglected, deprived, deprived, deprived. But whatever we can do we are doing our best,” she said.
In response to a reporter’s question about whether Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee received any response from Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the two letters she had written about the flood situation in West Bengal, she said, “Nothing, if I write a letter to the Prime Minister their state Minister give me a reply… only Bengal has not received flood relief funds… You have seen it in the budget.”
Speaking about the flood situation in West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata said, “Bengal has become flood-affected… South Bengal was affected earlier due to DVC water, more than 5 lakh cusecs they have released without our knowledge so Bardhaman, Birbhum, East and West Medinipur, Jhargram partly, Howrah, Hooghly was totally affected and now because of release of 6 lakh cusecs water from Nepal Koshi river now North Bengal is affected.”
Earlier, in a letter to PM Modi, Banerjee said that the floods had affected five million people and urged the central government to release emergency funds to support recovery efforts.
“The floods have led to significant loss of crops, damage to public infrastructure, and destruction of homes and livestock,” she wrote, adding the state government is working hard to provide relief, with operations underway to evacuate people to safer shelters.
Banerjee urged the Prime Minister to seriously consider her concerns and requested the release of funds for flood management efforts to help the affected population. (ANI)
