Pune (Maharashtra) [India], July 24 (ANI): In a shocking revelation, an activist from Pune has alleged that doctors at the state-run Sassoon General Hospital in Pune are abandoning destitute patients at night instead of providing them with necessary medical treatment.
This disturbing practice has been exposed by Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi activist Ritesh Gaikwad and social activist Dadasaheb Gaikwad.
In a recent incident, a doctor and his colleague allegedly abandoned a destitute patient on a road several kilometres away from the hospital. The patient named Nilesh, a 32-year-old resident of Madhya Pradesh, who was admitted for treatment after a bus accident on June 16 lost both legs, was taken out of the hospital and left to fend for himself on Monday midnight.
Based on a complaint filed by social workers, the Pune police have registered a case against the doctor under section 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to acts endangering life or personal safety of others.
Speaking on the incident Sassoon Hospital’s dean, Dr Eknath Pawar, said an inquiry has been initiated into the incident and the doctors in the case have been suspended. He further informed that, “the patient was undergoing treatment at the orthopaedic department. He underwent surgery on June 27. Two days ago, I was told that the patient had gone absconding from the hospital.”
This incident is the latest in a series of mismanagement and malpractice cases at Sassoon Hospital, which have raised concerns about patient care and safety. Activists Ritesh Gaikwad and Dadasaheb Gaikwad have exposed the incident, demanding action against the erring doctor and improvements in hospital management. (ANI)
