New Delhi [India], July 9 (ANI): Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Ghanshyam Tiwari on Tuesday responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Moscow, stating that India should play a positive and peaceful role in the Russia-Ukraine war.
Speaking to ANI, Ghanshyam Tiwari said, “The parties’ stand on India’s foreign policy, India’s dominance in the world and the country’s relations are united and in favour of the country. In the current situation, India’s role must be positive and peaceful in the war between Russia and Ukraine. This is what the world expects from India.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Russian President Vladimir Putin at the President’s House in Moscow on Monday. Putin welcomed PM Modi and the two leaders shared a hug.
The two leaders shook hands and warmly greeted each other before proceeding to the meeting.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi arrived in Moscow for a two-day official visit at the invitation of Russian President Putin to attend the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit.
Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov received PM Modi at the Vnukovo-II airport. PM Modi was accorded a ceremonial welcome at the airport.
Notably, PM Modi and Putin have met 16 times over the past 10 years.
PM Modi stated that he looks forward to further deepening the “special and privileged strategic partnership” between the two nations.
PM Modi shook hands and interacted with members of the Indian diaspora. He met with children who were happy to see him. People held Indian flags and posters of PM Modi and chanted “Modi Modi” to welcome him at the hotel. Artists dressed in Indian attire performed at the hotel to welcome PM Modi.
SP leader Ghanshyam Tiwari also commented on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s recent visit to relief camps to meet the displaced and violence-affected people in Manipur on Monday.
He also took a swipe at the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and said, “60,000 are displaced, over 200 are dead, and thousands of villages have been destroyed. Many women guard their villages to keep them safe. All these reflect the pain of Manipur. Every member of the INDIA bloc understands this pain.”
“We all are sad that the voice of Manipur has not reached PM Modi’s ears. Prime Minister Modi can hold election rallies in six different states in a day but cannot go to Manipur,” he added.
Prime Minister Modi’s absence in addressing the situation in Manipur underscores a perceived weakness in his leadership. In contrast, the INDIA bloc has established a strong presence in every corner of society, ensuring that the voices of the people are heard and their morale remains high.
PM Modi, during his address in the Rajya Sabha last week, reaffirmed that the central government is making efforts to normalize the situation in Manipur. He further said that the central and state governments are establishing interactions with all stakeholders to restore peace.
Violence erupted in the northeastern state on May 3 last year following clashes during a rally organized by the All Tribals Students Union (ATSU) to protest against the demand for the inclusion of the Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribe category. (ANI)
